My name is Jonas, and I’m the owner of Tarajoq Tours.
Since 2018, I’ve been sailing with guests in the Ilulissat Icefjord and the Disko Bay area - a place that never ceases to amaze me. My company is 100% locally owned and operated.
Tarajoq [dara’jok] is an old Inuit word for “salt water” - and that’s exactly where you’ll find me! I’m fueled by the endless beauty of the Icefjord and the joy of sharing unforgettable experiences with my guests - whether it’s sailing between towering icebergs or spotting playful humpback whales in the golden light of the midnight sun.
In addition to running Tarajoq Tours, I hold a degree in Arctic Civil Engineering with a focus on spatial planning and infrastructure. Outside the tourism season, I work in the renewable energy sector, helping to unlock Greenland’s enormous hydropower potential.
Over the years, I’ve also lived in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, and in Sisimiut, where I had a team of 14 Greenlandic sled dogs.
I hope to welcome you to Ilulissat in the summer of 2025!
A secret tip
While in Ilulissat, you should try and hike the "Yellow trail" around midnight. The light is magical and everything is quiet. If you're lucky, you'll see whales close to the shore. Just be patient.
